The Most Colorful Holiday

Mexico has given us a lively, colorful holiday to celebrate the dead.

Every November Tulsa has been celebrating this day with music, dance, blessings & altars with marigolds & sugar skulls, for 20 + years.

I go to see the altars that honor loved ones; they are imaginative & the colors make me happy!

Did you see this?

Today is National Color the World Orange Day! Artist Kalup Linzy has done a great job of giving us an orange world.

 I love collage, and
Kalup has combined collage with acrylic paint to picture a world that dreams are made of.

At the Price Tower

I walked into the Price Tower gallery at just the right time, and was blessed with a brief chat with artist Monte Toon.

Monte is an Oklahoma watercolorist, and his retrospective display will be on exhibit until November 18. And he'll be teaching a workshop at the Bartlesville Art Association in November. Check it out: Bartlesvilleartassociation.org

Crafting a Journal

I was not expecting to make another journal, but the inspiration came from Amy at Crafty Cat on Youtube. It's a grunge denim cover, & an old pair of jeans was on the top of the fabric pile, so why not.

How did I achieve this glorious grunginess? Ripping, machine stitching, adding fabric, lace, cheese cloth & thread, & staining with ink.

Front cover. The journal is 6"x9" with 2 signatures, total 80 pages.

Back cover. The shoestring closure is sewn at the spine.

Dear Mom

 Dear Mom,

Thanks for being such a terrific model. I believe this composition of blacks and grays was a great success. I hope you like it.

Your loving son,

Kids Make Art

How encouraging it is to see that despite all the upheaval & disruption of their lives, kids have remained creative.

On display at Price Tower.

And even an opportunity of others to play as well.

This past summer the Price Tower presented an exhibit of work by Oklahoma artist Lauren Florence.

particularly liked her decorative backgrounds.

Check out her work at laurenflorence.com

The current exhibit is by artist Jason Wilson. If you appreciate quilts you will be visually stimulated by Jason's use of design & color.

This exhibit is free, but closes Sunday 1/9.
