Carolyn Monk

Carolyn Monk
Local celebrity artist, Carolyn Monk, prodvided a program for the BART group March meeting.
She shared a little about her career, and had a planned demo on painting fur. Her "trick": skill (comes with practice), the right brush, and plenty of time.
Her wildlife paintings are shown in galleries all over the state. It's an honor to see her exquisite work, and a great honor to own one.

To inquire on purchasing one of her fine pieces her web site is, www.carolynmonkart.com

Yellow

Here it is, a prepared canvas. Ready for whichever idea finds it way to the canvas first.

Yellow opens the door for the flood of the rainbow to come in. The plan is for many blues & greens.

"As yellow is always accompanied with light, so it may be said that blue still brings a principle of darkness with it. This colour has a peculiar and almost indescribable effect on the eye. As a hue it is powerful, but it is on the negative side, and in its highest purity is, as it were, a stimulating negation. Its appearance, then, is a kind of contradiction between excitement and repose."

Bye, Bye Mitch

Mitch Lyon
June 2012

I just got news that Mitch Lyons died earlier this month.

About seven years ago while I was working in ceramics, I found Mitch's DVD's on ceramics in the college library. I loved what he was doing with ceramics especially the clayprinting. As I watched the magic appear on the clayprinting plate it was so exciting that I thought I would hyperventilate.

In 2012 I was able to take one of his workshops in Taos, NM. It changed the course of my work. My present studio is set up for clayprinting and I can easily lose myself for hours being surprised by what appears on my printing plates.

Thank you Mitch for sharing your clayprinting process with so many artists.

I created this clayprint at the workshop. It is framed & hangs in my entry.

Loving Vincent

I missed the movie Loving Vincent when it was at the theatre, but thankfully the library ordered it.

It's an animated feature mostly on the end of this life, and animated in the style of van Gogh. It's real "eye candy".

And van Gogh inspired young artists to create these works for the student art show on exhibit now at Price Tower.

Art Show

painting of museum entrance

Last week I made a trip to Woodward, OK. I had been contracted by the Plains Indians & Pioneers Museum to judge the up coming student art show. High school art students from around the state submit their best work. This is an annual event with hundreds of entries.
My thanks to Director, Robert Roberson, and Board Members, Leona & Karen for making the process go smoothly.

Here are three of the 26 that I picked as worthy of ribbons. Yes, there was cash involved.

If you're in the Woodward area check out this show:
