Quote of the Week

"There's something of that mysteriousness that one gets by looking at nature as if through the eyelashes, so that the forms simplify themselves into patches of colour."   Vincent van Gogh.

Vincent and Theo

I'm reading the book Vincent and Theo by Deborah Heiligman.

Self Portrait
Vincent Van Gogh
Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

The author writes this book in a very interesting way; dividing the story up into short vignettes, and writing in an almost poetic style.

This book presents a Vincent who is given repeated opportunities to succeed by his extended family, but seems too immature to stick to anything. Of course we now know that he was most probably suffered from Schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, and had his personal demons to contend with.

The author describes Vincent's younger brother, Theo, as his "champion, sympathizer, confidant, and friend".

He is Risen

The resurrection is our best hope.
"If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith."

Good Friday

During Holy Week of 2016 I was in Cuba; that was by my choice.

Our tour bus passed this sketch of Christ drawn on a church pillar several times, and each time I thought: I'd sure like to get a pic of that.

Well on Easter evening I found myself at this church for service, and got my pic of the Suffering Savior (my title), complete with tears & crown of thorns.

New York Bound

New York bound? Not me, but my artwork.

I found an opportunity on the web for a 6x6 show in Rochester, NY. So I went through my stash of clayprints and found 4 images that fit the bill.

More Masks

I heard about this exhibit at the Sherwin Miller Center & had to check it out.

I love it when kids are allowed to be creative.

What a variety! They're made out of : cardboard, paper mache, painted clay & glazed ceramic.

I need to start making more masks.

Spring Show

It's the 64th annual Spring Art Show for the Bartlesville Art Association.

I picked some samples that I thought made a strong photographic presence.
