The Most Colorful Holiday

Mexico has given us a lively, colorful holiday to celebrate the dead.

Every November Tulsa has been celebrating this day with music, dance, blessings & altars with marigolds & sugar skulls, for 20 + years.

I go to see the altars that honor loved ones; they are imaginative & the colors make me happy!

Day of the Dead

My holiday viewing included Disney's Coco, about a boy who longs to be a musician & visits the land of the dead to find his destiny.

Why am I attracted to Day of the Dead?
                                                         COLOR
                                         COLOR
                                         COLOR!

Jesus said: I am the bread of life.

I love to see shoe boxes used as shrines. I can't throw away a shoebox.
See the little skeletons? I want to get some clay & make a 100 of them.

It was hard to choose from all the great images.
I actually remember buying gas at .26 9/.

Day of the Dead

I had no specific design in mind when I decided to make this altar. I had the paper mache skulls (more about those later) & the thrift store painting to start with. I moved in some plants & lawn ornaments, flower pots & bottles & it just came together.

You can see it in person today at 1817 Southview Ave. It's in the car port. I'm not serving hot chocolate.

Day of the Dead

There is a fabulous Day of the Dead festival in Tulsa every year at the Living Arts Center.
                        Music, Food & Art.

Here are some images from last evening's celebration.

The displays of all the altars is the most fun part for me. All the colors & patterns; so many creative ways to celebrate life.
